Việt Nam có thể tham gia thiết kế lò phản ứng nghiên cứu mới cho Trung tâm KH&CN hạt nhân quốc gia
Đó là kết luận được rút ra từ kết quả của đề tài độc lập cấp quốc gia giai đoạn 2016-2020 về nghiên cứu, tính toán các đặc trưng neutron, thủy nhiệt và phân tích an toàn lò phản ứng hạt nhân nghiên cứu cho Trung tâm KH&CN hạt nhân (ĐTĐL.CN-50/15) do PGS. TS. Nguyễn Nhị Điền (VINATOM) làm chủ nhiệm.

Trong quá trình thực hiện, ông và cộng sự đã khảo sát, thiết lập và tính toán thiết kế về neutron và thủy nhiệt cho bốn cấu hình vùng hoạt lò phản ứng là: 1) Cấu hình sử dụng nhiên liệu IRT-4M với vành phản xạ Beryllium (Be); 2) Cấu hình sử dụng nhiên liệu VVR-KN với vành phản xạ Be; 3) Cấu hình sử dụng nhiên liệu MRT với vành phản xạ Be; và 4) Cấu hình sử dụng nhiên liệu MTR với vành phản xạ nước nặng (D2O). Các cấu hình đề xuất có các đặc trưng kỹ thuật đáp ứng tốt cho các ứng dụng đa mục tiêu của một lò phản ứng đương đại trên thế giới có cùng mức công suất.

Các giá trị tính toán về thông lượng neutron đáp ứng tốt cho các ứng dụng điển hình, gồm: sản xuất 8 loại đồng vị phóng xạ phổ biến trong Y học hạt nhân (Mo-99, I -131, I -125, Y-90, Ho -166, Lu -177, S -35, P- 32 và Sm- 153) và nguồn phóng xạ kín cho y tế (I-192) và công nghiệp (I -192, Se-75, Co -60) cho nhu cầu trong nước và xuất khẩu, phân tích kích hoạt neutron, chiếu xạ pha tạp đơn tinh thể silic, nghiên cứu cấu trúc vật liệu bằng kỹ thuật tán xạ và nhiễu xạ neutron, chụp ảnh neutron… Một trong những kết quả của đề tài là công bố “Conceptual design of a 10 MW multi-purpose research reactor using VVR-KN fuel” được đăng tải trên tạp chí Science and Technology of Nuclear Installations.
