Thiết bị không dây tí hon chiếu sáng hoạt động của nơron trong não
Một thiết bị di truyền quang học ít xâm lấn hơn đưa các nhà nghiên cứu tiến gần hơn đến các phương pháp điều trị mới cho chứng đau mãn tính, trầm cảm, động kinh, và nhiều căn bệnh khác nữa.

Các nhà nghiên cứu kỹ thuật của Đại học Arizona tạo ra các công cụ mới cho phương pháp quang di truyền, chiếu ánh sáng vào các tế bào thần kinh cụ thể trong não để kích thích hoặc ngăn chặn hoạt động. Các thí nghiệm di truyền quang học nhằm mục đích tăng cường hiểu biết về cách thức hoạt động của não, cho phép các nhà khoa học phát triển và thử nghiệm các phương pháp chữa trị tiềm năng các bệnh tật như bệnh thoái hóa thần kinh.

Nghiên cứu được công bố trên tạp chí PNAS, các nhà nghiên cứu UA Arizona đã hợp tác với các nhà nghiên cứu tại Đại học Northwestern để chứng minh một công cụ phân phối ánh sáng không dây cho phép di truyền quang học liền mạch trong não.

Thiết bị nhỏ, kết quả lớn

Các thí nghiệm di truyền quang học hiện tại, thực hiện trên các mô hình động vật, liên quan đến một loại protein nhạy cảm với ánh sáng, gắn vào các tế bào thần kinh cụ thể trong não.

Sau đó, các nhà nghiên cứu sử dụng một thiết bị nhỏ để gửi các xung ánh sáng đến các tế bào thần kinh này và điều chỉnh hoạt động của chúng. Đối với mức độ mạnh mẽ của công cụ này, khái niệm cơ bản rất đơn giản: Nó gần giống như sử dụng một chiếc đèn pin công nghệ cao, nhỏ.

Các nhà nghiên cứu cho biết thiết bị mô phỏng di truyền quang học xuyên qua sọ không dây đầu tiên có thể truyền ánh sáng xuyên qua hộp sọ chứ không phải xuyên qua hàng rào máu não về mặt vật lý. Kỹ thuật xuyên qua sọ được thực hiện bằng cách sử dụng một thiết bị không dây và không dùng pin, mỏng như tờ giấy và đường kính bằng một nửa đồng xu, được cấy ngay dưới da.

Đẩy nhanh tiến độ trong tương lai

Vẫn còn một chặng đường dài trước khi công nghệ này sẵn sàng thự hiện ở người. Đặc biệt, phải đạt được tiến bộ về các phương pháp đưa các protein nhạy cảm với ánh sáng vào não người và vùng ngoại vi.

Bước đột phá của phương pháp phân phối ánh sáng mạnh hơn giúp cải thiện khả năng nghiên cứu các đối tượng trong điều kiện tự nhiên hơn của các nhà khoa học. Bởi vì nó không yêu cầu các đầu dò xâm lấn, nó cũng giúp nghiên cứu di truyền quang học dễ tiếp cận hơn. Giờ đây, ngay cả những phòng thí nghiệm không có một loạt thiết bị phẫu thuật phức tạp cũng có thể giúp thúc đẩy lĩnh vực này.
