Workshop on Proficiency testing and measures to improve the quality of environmental monitoring activities
On October 7, 2021, Deputy Minister Bui The Duy had an online meeting with the high-ranking business delegation of the US-ASEAN Business Council (USABC) in the annual working program between the Ministry of Science and Technology and USABC. On the side of USABC, Mr. Michael Michalak, Senior Vice President and Chief Executive Officer, former US Ambassador to Vietnam for the period of 2007-2010 chaired the working part of US businesses, including typical businesses, such as Abbott, Amazon Web Service, Qualcom, UL, Varian, etc.
The meeting took place in the online form, chaired by Deputy Minister of Science and Technology Bui The Duy and Mr. Michael Michalak, Senior Vice President and CEO, former US Ambassador to Vietnam for the period of 2007-2010.
At the meeting, Mr. Michael Michalak thanked the Ministry of Science and Technology for the cooperation with US businesses in the past time and affirmed that he always stands by and wants to cooperate with Vietnam in the long term of implementing the dual goal of preventing the Covid-19 epidemic and reopening the economy. Mr. Michael Michalak also affirmed that the US focuses on development in the fields of technologies and innovation and will continue to coordinate with the Ministry in the coming time.
Representatives of US businesses raised many questions about issues of concern such as the amendment of Decree No. 43/2017/ND-CP on the origin of goods for medical equipment and medical equipment components, regulations on technology transfer, digital transformation issues, etc. At the same time, businesses also expressed their desire to promote cooperation in the fields of technology transfer and innovation to synchronize accompanying Vietnamese businesses and people in the process of economic development.
On behalf of the Ministry of Science and Technology, Deputy Minister Bui The Duy thanked US businesses for directly supporting Vietnam in the fight against the Covid-19 epidemic in the past time and affirmed that the Ministry of Science and Technology always listen and absorb the opinions of businesses to create the best conditions for business activities. The Ministry of Science and Technology will work with USABC to connect innovation organizations in both countries to improve the technology absorption capacity of Vietnamese enterprises, especially small and medium enterprises; strengthen research and innovation activities at universities and research institutes; and connect activities of transferring advanced and modern technology from the US to Vietnam. At the end of the meeting, the two sides agreed to soon organize specific activities to implement cooperation activities in the coming time.
