The Ministry of Science and Technology cited the report "Government AI Readiness Index" in 2022 conducted by Oxford Insights (United Kingdom) showing that Vietnam ranked 55th globally (up 7 places compared to 2021) and ranked 6th of 10 in ASEAN, with Vietnam's average score of 53.96 (compared to 51.82 in 2021), surpassing the world average (44.61).
The report assesses the AI readiness of governments from 181 countries to harness AI applications to operate and deliver their services. The index is used as a tool to compare the current state of government AI readiness in countries across the globe to learn from useful development experiences.
The ranking is based on 39 indicators across three pillars - Government, technology level, infrastructure and data - and covers 10 dimensions: infrastructure, data availability, representativeness of data, human capital, innovation capacity, scale, adaptability, digital competence, governance and ethics, vision.
This is the fifth time this global report has been published, after four times in 2017, 2019, 2020 and 2021.
The level of AI technology across East Asia is growing. According to the Report, there are 9 East Asian countries with unicorn companies this year, compared to 6 companies last year. The Philippines, Vietnam and Malaysia all have more unicorn companies. The report authors say that this is a favorable area for the development of the technology industry because of the young population, with high digital skills, and the ability to quickly adapt to digital solutions.
