Phát hiện ra tiềm năng kháng sinh ở cây cần sa
Các nhà nghiên cứu của Đại học McMaster đã xác định được một hợp chất kháng khuẩn được tạo ra bởi cây cần sa có thể được sử dụng để phát triển thuốc mới.

Một nhóm các nhà nghiên cứu ở McMaster đã phát hiện ra một hợp chất hóa học cannabinoid, có tên gọi là cannabigerol (CBG) không chỉ kháng khuẩn mà còn có hiệu quả ở chuột chống lại một loại vi khuẩn có khả năng kháng thuốc methicillin (MRSA).

Trong nghiên cứu này, các nhà khoa học đã nghiên cứu 18 loại cannabinoids có bán trên thị trường và tất cả chúng đều cho thấy hoạt động của thuốc kháng sinh, nhiều hơn so với những loại khác.

Nhóm nghiên cứu phát hiện ra rằng CBG có hoạt tính kháng khuẩn chống lại MRSA kháng thuốc. CBG ngăn cản khả năng vi khuẩn hình thành màng sinh học, là cộng đồng của các vi sinh vật bám vào nhau trên bề mặt; và nó đã phá hủy màng sinh học và tế bào kháng thuốc kháng sinh. CBG đạt được điều này bằng cách hướng đến màng tế bào của vi khuẩn.

Những phát hiện trong phòng thí nghiệm đã được hỗ trợ khi chuột bị nhiễm MRSA được tiêm CBG. Nhóm nghiên cứu lưu ý là độc tính của CBG trên các tế bào chủ. Nhóm đã nghiên cứu tiềm năng kháng sinh của cần sa trong hai năm qua kể từ khi cần sa được hợp pháp hóa ở Canada.
