Towards mastering the technology of producing many types of vaccines
Following the direction of the Government Leaders, the Ministry of Science and Technology has coordinated with other ministries and sectors to develop a national key S&T program "Research and manufacture vaccines for human use by 2030." The draft Program is being submitted for comments before submitting to the Prime Minister for consideration and approval.

Research and development of vaccines for preventive medicine
Over the past 20 years, the field of research and development of vaccines to prevent and control dangerous diseases in our country such as Tuberculosis, Diphtheria - Tetanus - Pertussis, Rabies, Encephalitis, Hepatitis, Polio, Typhoid, and etc. have been interested and invested by the Government, the Ministry of Science and Technology, and the Ministry of Health. In the context of the country is still facing many difficulties, but the research and production of vaccines has achieved certain results. Specifically, vaccine-preventable diseases, such as Diphtheria - Tetanus - Pertussis, Tuberculosis, Hepatitis B, Japanese Encephalitis, and etc. have significantly reduced morbidity and mortality. Polio was also eradicated in 2002, cholera and typhoid were controlled.
Many scientific research projects at the State, ministerial and grassroots levels have been carried out in order to research or acquire and transfer technologies for the production of essential vaccines and important biological products serving the country's taking care and protecting public health, such as Japanese encephalitis; Hepatitis B; Diarrhea drink; Hepatitis A; Diphtheria - Tetanus - Whooping cough; Hib and etc. We have been very successful in absorbing technology transfer, deploying from research and development (R&D) projects to pilot production projects and production deployment at industrial scale, serving practical life. With the support of the Ministry of Science and Technology and the Ministry of Health, domestic vaccine production research facilities have succeeded in researching, deploying and putting into mass production of products as a result of State-level scientific research projects on research and development of new vaccines that has brought practical socio-economic effects in the strategy of controlling and preventing infectious diseases in Vietnam.
Up to now, Vietnam has mastered the technologies and produced vaccines for the Expanded Immunization Program and a number of other vaccines, contributing to the eradication and repelling of many dangerous diseases, ensuring security and safety of community health. In addition, the research and production facilities for vaccines and medical biological products are also conducting research and production studies on the production of Hib conjugate vaccines, micro-conjugated typhoid, combination vaccines, dengue vaccines, and vaccines rabies on vero cells, microtyphoid, anti-rabies antisera and etc.
Vaccine research and production facilities all have vaccine research and development departments funded by the State and receive technology transfer from some advanced countries. However, due to limited funding, there are still many vaccines produced with new technologies that have not yet been produced in Vietnam and still have to be imported from foreign countries, such as combination vaccines, meningococcal, Hib plus case, acellular pertussis vaccine and etc.
In terms of organization, there are currently four state-owned establishments conducting research and production of vaccines, including: Institute of Vaccines and Medical Biologicals (IVAC), Center for Research and Production of Vaccines and Biologicals. No. 1 Vaccine and Biological Products Limited Company (VABIOTECH), Pasteur Da Lat Vaccine Limited Company (DAVAC).
