Every year, the Varkey Foundation will present the Global Teacher Prize to teachers who have made outstanding contributions to the teaching profession - last year teacher Ha Anh Phuong, English teacher at Huong Can High School (Phu Tho) entered the top 10 of the award. This year, the Varkey Foundation decided to collaborate with educational technology solutions provider Chegg.org to organize a new award called the Global Student Prize to honor students who have made great efforts and contribute to the community, despite the difficult situation of the pandemic.
Accordingly, on September 9, the organization Board of the new awards announced the list of "50 best global students in 2021". Dong Ngoc Ha (University of Natural Sciences - Hanoi National University) is the only representative of Vietnam in this list.
Currently, Ha is a first-year student in the Bachelor of Talented Science class, Department of Biology. In order to continue realizing her dream of contributing to the community, spreading the love of science to everyone, Ha established Biology For All Vietnam - a teaching project for students in the team of excellent students in Biology in 10 provinces. Even during the pandemic, Biology For All Vietnam still organizes online exchanges, supports and continues to foster gifted students across the country.
With her ability and contributions, Dong Ngoc Ha has received a number of awards, such as the Third-class Labor Medal, the prize for the best project in the international group project competition - International Biology Olympiad 2020, Second Prize in Rudolf Ortvay International Physics Competition 2020, Gold Medal in International Medicine Olympiad 2021.
By being named in the top 50 global outstanding students, Ha will have the opportunity to join Chegg Changemaker, an international community of students who want to make a positive impact on society. “These students will now work together to find solutions to major global challenges. After all, it is their dreams, insights and creativity that are important factors in building the future,” said Lila Thomas, Director of Chegg.org.
In addition, Ha also has the opportunity to win a special prize of 100,000 USD (the organization Board will announce the winner's name at the awards ceremony in Paris in November). Dong Ngoc Ha shared, if he wins the prize, he will use the prize money to sponsor Hanoi Maker Faire - a free online tutoring system, sponsoring a STEM cooperation program between Hong Kong -Vietnam universities, and develop the Biology For All Vietnam project.
