Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh attended and spoke at the opening ceremony of the Digital World Conference and Exhibition 2021 (ITU Digital World 2021).
The event was organized by the Ministry of Information and Communications in collaboration with the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) in an online form on a digital platform built by Vietnam. ITU Digital World is the largest, global annual event of ITU, a United Nations organization with 193 member countries.
Speaking at the ceremony, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh emphasized: The world is experiencing unprecedented rapid and profound changes, especially due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. The strong development of science and technology and the process of global digital transformation pose both opportunities and challenges for countries. However, digital transformation is certainly the right direction, both ensuring a new normal operating state in the digital space and contributing to economic recovery with people's health and safety always placed first and foremost.
The Vietnamese government considers digital infrastructure, data infrastructure, and national digital platforms to be key factors and is trying to accelerate the national digital transformation roadmap. In particular, the Government always believes that Vietnam's digital technology enterprises will play an important role in the successful implementation of this process; so that Vietnam's digital economy strives to account for more than 20% of the national GDP by 2025 and strives to reach 30% by 2030.
The Digital World Expo 2021 is an opportunity to introduce digital technology products, services and solutions of organizations and businesses from many countries around the world; delivering unique experiences that demonstrate willingness, creativity and cooperation for a progressive, secure, peaceful and prosperous digital world, contributing to peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region and in the world. This event will contribute to unlocking the values of digital transformation, digital technology to contribute to the development of a collaborative and sharing digital economy, for the benefit and advancement of people in all countries in the world.
In announcing the opening of the Digital World Digital Expo 2021, the Prime Minister expressed his wish that ITU would continue to support member countries to accelerate the digital transformation process and narrow the digital gap; suggested that business organizations continue to promote cooperation, accompany the governments of other countries to overcome difficulties, proactively adapt safely, flexibly and effectively to restore economic development.
Speaking at the International Telecommunication Union Ministerial Conference right after the opening ceremony, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh assessed that the Digital World Conference and Exhibition is even more meaningful when it takes place in the context of the next world continue to face a "double challenge": both fighting the COVID-19 pandemic, and proactively adapting safely, flexibly and effectively for socio-economic recovery and development. This is the right time for us to renew our thinking, operation, and socio-economic management, join hands in managing change, turning risks into threats, and increasing resilience and adaptability to every situation to overcome and grow stronger.
In the context of the world being heavily affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, technology and digital services have demonstrated the advantages of flexibility, creating a favorable environment for ideas and initiatives to overcome difficulties, safely adapt to the pandemic, recover and develop sustainably.
