Celebrating 51 years of World Standards Day: Celebrating the great benefits of standards
In the afternoon of October 14, 2021 in Hanoi city, the Directorate of Standards, Metrology and Quality - Ministry of Science and Technology will organize the 51st Anniversary of World Standards Day on October 14 with the direct and online form.

Attending the ceremony, there were Mr. Le Xuan Dinh - Deputy Minister of Science and Technology, Mr. Nguyen Hoang Linh - Deputy Director of the Directorate of Standards, Metrology and Quality, representatives of ministries, branches, associations, research institutes, universities, etc. domestic and foreign organizations and enterprises, together with the Departments of Science and Technology, the Department of Standards, Metrology and Quality connect online through bridgeheads in 63 provinces/cities.

In these days, nearly 200 countries and territories that are members of the world's three leading standards organizations, ISO, IEC, ITU, celebrate with diverse forms. This activity, on the one hand, aims to honor the great benefits of standards in global socio-economic life, on the other hand, to encourage and attract all countries, territories, sectors and individuals participate more actively in standardization activities. Each year, the three organizations ISO, IEC and ITU agree to come up with a topic for World Standards Day.

This year's topic is "Standards for the Sustainable Development Goals - A Shared Vision for a Better World" to convey the message: Standards provide solutions to address related challenges to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs); Standards are built on collaboration - the world cannot achieve the Sustainable Development Goals alone; Standards can help us make things better again - COVID-19 has increased the urgency to achieve the SDGs.

In response to this message, the Directorate for Standards, Metrology and Quality - Ministry of Science and Technology organized a Celebration of World Standards Day to raise stakeholder awareness of the standards' contributions to Sustainable development goals. At the same time, calling on all parties to cooperate and share a common vision to build a better world, in which each individual and organization must join and accompany so that the country can quickly recover everything better after the severe effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Currently, the Ministry of Science and Technology has published more than 13,000 TCVNs, the ratio is in harmony with international standards, regional standards are over 60%, covering most areas of the economy, helping businesses to actively strengthen capacity and prepare the best solutions and strategies in complying with rules and regulations to meet the requirements of economic development and deep integration in global commercialization.

The celebration is also an opportunity for the national standards body to share the development orientation of standards and technical regulations from now to 2030, which includes: Developing a national standardization strategy closely with the socio-economic development plan to 2030; Promote the socialization of standard, business-oriented, business-centered activities; strengthen national standardization resources.

The celebration attracted the online participation of hundreds of delegates from regulatory agencies, associations, businesses, and experts in the field of standardization. In the Celebration, there was a message conveying from Mr. Sergio Mujica, ISO Secretary General, Mr. Dennis Chew - Director of IEC Asia. Congratulations from representatives of international organizations having bilateral partnership with Vietnam: Ms. Teresa J. Cendrowska, Vice President of American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM International); Mr. Phil Piqueira, Vice President of Underwriters Laboratories (UL), Chairman of the board of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI).
