Newly published national standards for food safety management systems
On April 6, 2023, leaders of the Ministry of Science and Technology issued Decision No. 586/QD-BKHCN on the publication of national standards TCVN 5603: 2023 General principles of food hygiene. This standard has been developed on the basis of reference to the CODEX CXC 1-1969 standard, revision 2020, General principles of food hygiene, replacing TCVN 5603:2008 (CAC/RCP 1-1969, Rev.4-2003) . In this 2020 version there have been many changes.

In terms of layout, the standard content is divided into two chapters: Chapter 1 Good Hygiene Practice (GHP), Chapter 2 Hazard Analysis System, Critical Control Point (HACCP), with detailed instructions. In terms of hazard control, the allergen is put under control on par with the 3 traditional hazards (biological, physical, chemical). The new standard is also flexible in applying the HACCP tree to define critical control points (CCPs).
The application of TCVN 5603:2023 according to the latest updated version of the Codex standard will help businesses identify and control potential hazards, thereby progressing to early remediation, greatly reducing food safety risks.
Simultaneously with TCVN 5603: 2023, the Ministry of Science and Technology also published TCVN ISO/TS 22002-5: 2023 on transport and preservation of food. This standard is part of the ISO/TS 22002 series of standards (ISO/TS 22002) Food safety prerequisite program.
Thus, the ISO/TS 22002 series will have all 6 parts applicable to the food chain, including the production of food packaging; production of animal feed; raise; Food Processing; transportation and storage; food supply. These are very important standards supporting the implementation of ISO 22000:2018 Food safety management systems – Requirements for organizations in the food chain.
