The 3rd Vietnam - India Joint Committee on Cooperation in the Use of Atomic Energy for Peaceful Purposes
Recently, the 3rd meeting of the Vietnam - India Joint Committee on cooperation in the use of atomic energy for peaceful purposes was co-chaired by Dr. Tran Chi Thanh, director of the Vietnam Atomic Energy Institute and Dr. Arun Kumar Nayak, Nuclear Planning and Control Board, Department of Atomic Energy of India (DAE).

After discussing the issues that the member units of the atomic energy sector of Vietnam and India have done in the past two years, Vietnam has proposed that the Joint Committee's mechanism will allow the expansion of future nuclear energy cooperation in the following areas: 1. Implementation of the project of the National Nuclear Science and Technology Research Center; 2. Nuclear regulation; 3. Applying renewable energy in socio-economic fields, especially health, industry, agriculture and environment; 4. Deploying the project of building a neutron diffraction system on a research nuclear reactor of the Nuclear Research Institute; 5. Supply Co-60 source; 6. Cooperation in the discovery, extraction and processing of monazite concentrates; 7. Training human resources on the application of nuclear energy in healthcare and rare earth mineral processing.
It is known that, in the field of agriculture, Vietnam proposes potential cooperation: exchange of genetic resources and cooperation in molecular genetic research of mutated traits; other studies on the application of radioisotopes in plant protection, plant nutrition and environmental protection; training on mutation genetics and the application of genetic tools in mutant breeding; application of radioisotopes in plant protection, plant nutrition and environmental protection; cooperation project to strengthen research capacity on mutation genetics and application in crop mutation; construction of gamma irradiation facilities for mutant breeding purposes. Before this proposal, India said it will work with relevant Indian parties to promote cooperation contents as soon as possible, contributing to promoting the cooperative relationship between the two sides.
Also within the framework of the meeting, the Indian Delegation had a courtesy meeting with Deputy Minister of Science and Technology Le Xuan Dinh in the morning of May 26, 2023.
