Creating sustainable competitive advantages for businesses through applying green productivity
Applying green productivity in production is becoming an inevitable trend of the times, because it helps businesses reduce negative impacts on the environment, save resources and energy, and at the same time improve efficiency and competitiveness in the international market.

This is especially important for export enterprises, as environmental protection standards and “green certification” are increasingly stringent, requiring enterprises to apply clean, sustainable technology to meet international markets and regulations. In fact, many Vietnamese enterprises have clearly recognized the benefits of green productivity as a strategy to reduce costs, optimize processes, and build long-term competitive advantages.
However, the transition to a green productivity model is not without challenges, such as high investment costs, difficulties in accessing preferential loans, and limitations in human resources with appropriate knowledge. In addition, the dissemination of new technologies is not widespread enough, plus the high cost of green products makes consumers hesitant.
Unclear government support policies are also a major barrier for small businesses that want to apply green solutions in production. Therefore, raising awareness, enhancing training and providing information on new technologies are essential factors to promote this transition.
Experts affirm that green productivity is not only a strategy to improve production efficiency but also contributes to environmental protection, aiming at sustainable economic development. According to the Asian Productivity Organization, this strategy combines solutions, tools, and management technologies to bring dual benefits: environmental protection and competitive advantage enhancement. In the context of rapid economic development, urbanization, and industrialization, businesses need to research, understand green criteria, and prepare appropriate human resources to adapt and develop sustainably in the future.
In recent years, the National Committee for Standards, Metrology and Quality has been strengthening solutions to support businesses in green productivity, such as increasing conferences, seminars, and communications to help businesses gain deeper access to green productivity. Providing training courses to help businesses gain more knowledge and improve the quality of human resources.
Green productivity is also one of the very important contents in the national program to support enterprises in improving product productivity, thereby supporting enterprises in implementing green productivity solutions as well as in Decision No. 36 of the Prime Minister on improving productivity and quality based on science, technology and innovation.
