Young generation and the mission of "greening" the West
In the context of increasingly serious climate change and the strong development of digital technology, green startups have become an inevitable trend and mission of the young generation.

Very few people succeed the first time they try, and the same is true for green startups

At the seminar “Green startups: Opportunities and challenges in the digital age” on May 28, 2025 organized by Can Tho City Department of Science and Technology, experts affirmed that the young generation is an important resource to promote the green economy. It is also the force that determines the success of sustainable startup initiatives in the future, through the formation of awareness of the meaning and responsibility of “greening” from an early age.

The Department of Science and Technology always accompanies businesses on the green transformation journey.

It is recommended that educational institutions focus on training in startup spirit and environmental awareness, helping young people develop a “green” mindset to adapt and take advantage of opportunities in the digital economy. In fact, creating conditions for the younger generation to experience, fail and learn from real-life activities is very important, helping them accumulate skills and build a foundation for green startup projects.

If you want to start a successful business, don't just focus on what you like, create what society needs.

Meanwhile, Can Tho has a great advantage in terms of rich agricultural resources and potential domestic market. Young local businesses, such as Nghi Nghi Starfruit Jam project have taken advantage of this strength to develop a circular economy and contribute to building local brands in the digital age. At the same time, initiatives, competitions, and community projects also create favorable conditions for green startup ideas of the young generation to go far. In addition, the event also displayed many green startup products of Can Tho, clearly demonstrating the strength and potential of the local green economy.

Fruits commonly found in the Mekong Delta have now become the main sources of raw materials for startups on the journey to develop a green economy.

In the context of climate change and the increasingly urgent need for sustainable development, green startup ideas are gradually becoming a reality through innovative products, technologies and models. At the Seminar, many projects displayed the results of research, testing, application and commercialization based on technology, innovation and digital transformation. A typical example is the Abavina project, a natural agricultural community, building an environmentally friendly production and business model, helping the community master and live in harmony with nature.

The startup journey must be associated with passion, enthusiasm and desire to learn

Green startup models are also clearly demonstrated through the Nghi Nghi Starfruit Jam project, which utilizes starfruit - a rustic fruit with great potential in developing a circular economy. Starfruit processed products, such as jam, juice, and starfruit chili salt have proven their value and promoted green startup awareness in the community. Along with that, the AFSC flood warning system for the Mekong Delta region helps the community proactively respond to climate change, minimize damage to people and property, and at the same time create conditions for young people to directly participate in operations to raise community awareness.

Green Startup products must contribute to solving urgent social needs.

Green transformation must start with awareness

In addition, the Thao Dien Phu My project aims to raise awareness of climate change and promote green startups for young people, especially disadvantaged groups and Khmer people. Through activities, such as training and production of environmentally friendly products from sedge and water hyacinth, the project not only creates stable jobs and increases income for people but also expands the model to many localities, contributing to the development of sustainable handicrafts. In addition, the event also displayed many green startup products of Can Tho, clearly demonstrating the strength of the local green economy.
