Green Startups: Opportunities and challenges in the digital age
In the context of increasingly severe climate change and increasing demand for sustainable consumption, green startups in the digital age have become an inevitable trend to promote sustainable development of businesses and the economy.

Green startups not only create innovative business models, but also contribute to solving environmental and social challenges.

Digital transformation is not only a means of support but also a key driver, helping businesses optimize operations, make supply chains transparent and increase social impact through technologies, such as IoT, AI, Big Data and Blockchain. These technologies support environmental monitoring, predict consumer demand, trace product origin, and build a community of environmentally conscious consumers, thereby creating a sustainable and environmentally friendly business model.

Green transformation is a new trend, but it is not a choice, a vital factor, affecting the sustainable development of businesses

The science and technology sector is the most important key in promoting business development in line with the current green trend. Businesses appreciate the vision of the city's leaders, especially the leaders of the science and technology sector, in capturing new economic development trends and promoting sustainable business development" - Mr. Nguyen Van Toan Co - Chairman of the Board of Directors of Felix Technology Solutions Joint Stock Company (B2B e-commerce platform Felix.store)

At the seminar “Green Startups: Opportunities and Challenges in the Digital Age” organized by the Department of Science and Technology of Can Tho, experts, businesses and the startup community shared many innovative models, and analyzed the challenges and roles of digital technology in developing sustainable initiatives. In particular, the city’s Startup and Innovation Center will play a central role in supporting research, development and international cooperation on startups, contributing to promoting the local and Mekong Delta innovation movement.

In particular, digital technology plays a key role in promoting “greening” activities, helping businesses minimize negative impacts on the environment through solutions such as smart sensors, AI, Blockchain and e-commerce.

Green startups = multi-dimensional ecosystem + sustainable competitive advantage + long-term business growth plan

hese systems not only improve efficiency, transparency and ethics in the supply chain but also help expand the market and build a community of environmentally conscious consumers. According to experts, to meet the requirements of sustainable development, businesses need a clear and strong digital transformation roadmap in production, business and management activities.

Currently, digital transformation and green transformation are two main pillars, promoting sustainable business development

Vietnam is now known as a country with high coordination between the State and enterprises in synchronously implementing digital transformation, promoting socio-economic development

Despite being an inevitable trend of the green economy, green startups in Vietnam are facing many challenges such as lack of knowledge and ESG reporting standards, difficulty accessing capital due to lack of collateral, and business models that have not clearly demonstrated effectiveness. In addition, digital infrastructure is not synchronized, there is a lack of quality human resources in sustainable industry, and green technologies require large investment capital, making investors cautious about new models. These difficulties highlight the barriers that green startups need to overcome for sustainable development.

Many businesses in Can Tho today, may be sitting in a cafe, sitting in a corner somewhere, running the business remotely

However, challenges always have hidden opportunities, green startups can still become a potential field if taking advantage of the right time, technology and policies. Resolutions of the Politburo, such as Resolution 57-NQ/TW, 68-NQ/TW, along with the new private economic development policy, have created leverage to promote green transformation of enterprises and deep integration into the global value chain in a sustainable manner. This is an opportunity for enterprises to innovate their models, access capital and create sustainable development in the new era.

The organization of today's Seminar has demonstrated the attention of the leadership agencies to the sustainable development trend of local enterprises

In the context of many challenges, experts and businesses are constantly looking for solutions to promote the green economy in Vietnam, especially in the Mekong Delta and Can Tho regions. Digital technology is considered the "golden key" to help businesses improve efficiency, innovate and spread green values widely. With support from policies, it is a solid foundation for green startups to integrate into the global digital economic flow, creating a sustainable development future for Vietnamese businesses.
