After more than 2 years of research, Assoc.Prof.Dr. Le Hoang Son (Institute of Information Technology, Vietnam National University, Hanoi) and his colleagues have recently successfully developed a system to apply deep learning models in identifying areas of periodontitis from X-ray images of dental optics.
Through the process of testing and using at the Institute of Odonto-Stomatology - Hanoi Medical University, the system gives diagnostic results with periodontitis including sensitivity and specificity of over 90%.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Le Hoang Son shared, the software is deployed on the Internet, so users can access it anytime; convenient in tracking and detailed statistics, full of important information. “From the feedback and editing suggestions of the doctors to increase the perfection of the software, the research team hopes that this will be a premise for the team to continue developing information technology applications in the future medical diagnosis, especially dental imaging.”
Research under the scientific and technological project "Development of a diagnostic system for periapical disease based on dental X-ray images" funded by the Science and Technology Development Fund of Vietnam National University, Hanoi.
