The Advisory Council evaluated and accepted the results of the project "Research on making probiotics containing Serratia nematodiphila CT-78 bacteria against Xanthomonas oryzae pv. oryzae causes rice leaf blight disease in Can Tho”
In the morning of April 13, 2022, Can Tho City Department of Science and Technology organized a Scientific and Technological Council to accept the project "Research on making probiotics containing Serratia nematodiphila CT-78 bacteria that is antagonistic to Xanthomonas oryzae pv. oryzae causes rice leaf blight in Can Tho.” The study was carried out by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Dac Khoa. Can Tho University was a presiding agency. The execution time of the project was 30 months.

The purpose of the study is to determine a suitable carrier containing capable Serratia nematodiphila CT-78 bacteria of maintaining the effective density for at least one year; Making a biological product containing Serratia nematodiphila CT-78 bacteria for the control of leaf blight in field conditions.

Overview of the meeting

Council members
The research team carried out the following contents: Selection of raw materials as carriers to make powdered preparations; Survey on the number of antagonistic bacteria in the carrier; Investigation of antagonistic ability on agar plate; Investigate the effectiveness of disease reduction in greenhouse conditions; Investigate the effectiveness of disease reduction in field, laboratory and greenhouse conditions; Investigate the ability to stimulate the growth of rice; Investigation of the antagonistic mechanism under laboratory conditions.

Research team
Research results show that, three preparations of talcum powder, rice husk and bran can control leaf blight in greenhouse conditions after 24 months of storage and in field conditions after 12 months of storage by up to 76%; Two reports on research results on probiotics containing Serratia nematodiphila CT-78, which is antagonistic to Xanthomonas oryzae pv.oryzae causing rice leaf blight disease in Can Tho and the mechanism of reducing leaf blight of rice of Serratia nematodiphila CT-78 bacteria; Three formulation processes for each carrier type, including the formulation process at 20% moisture content; initial density 109 CFU/mL; The preparation process at 50% humidity, initial density of 106 CFU/mL combined with semi-solid fermentation reached a density of 109 CFU/g; The preparation process is at 50% humidity, the initial density is 106 CFU/mL combined with semi-solid fermentation to reach the density of 109CFU/g, then the humidity is adjusted to 20%,...
The Council has agreed to accept the project, but the research team needs to add some additional contents according to the comments of the council members.
