Kỹ thuật mới tổng hợp vật liệu siêu dẫn
Các nhà nghiên cứu của Đại học Rochester cho biết một kỹ thuật mới tạo ra vật liệu siêu dẫn ở áp suất thấp. Họ mô tả việc tách các nguyên tử hydro khỏi nguyên tố yttrium bằng một màng mỏng paladi bên trong một cái đe kim cương.

Palladium là một chất xúc tác rất tốt để "phá vỡ các phân tử hydro và khuếch tán chúng vào bất kỳ vật liệu nào. Trong trường hợp này, một lớp palađi cực nhỏ bảo vệ yttrium, một kim loại chuyển tiếp phản ứng, khỏi bị oxy hóa, nhưng đồng thời, phân hủy hydro thành các nguyên tử riêng lẻ, sau đó được khuếch tán vào yttrium.
