The application of artificial intelligence in the prevention of the Covid-19 pandemic
After nearly two years of the Covid-19 outbreak, artificial intelligence (AI) technology plays an important role, helping to reduce the burden on the medical team and the epidemic prevention and control force through practical applications. With development interest, AI can prove even more effective.

Doctors at Cho Ray Hospital connected the Telehealth system with the district level for consultation and treatment advice for severe COVID-19 cases.

Fast tracking, zoning the outbreak thanks to AI tools

Right from the early days of the Covid-19 outbreak, software using artificial intelligence with functions of early detection, warning, zoning, epidemic suppression as well as detecting illegal border crossings has been developed, perfected and put into wide application. Perhaps, the most effective and closest is the Bluezone software that has been effective in the fight against Covid-19. Almost immediately, the authorities implemented the simplified online medical declaration procedure in all circumstances, so that the people could not complete the process because of the complicated and unfavourable process for health declaration. The information technology system manages the people on entry, those subject to isolation from entering the concentrated isolation area, handing over, going on the road, received by the local authorities when they return to their places of residence to continue to follow. Medical monitoring is always updated with real-time data.

Deputy Minister of Science and Technology, Head of Quick Response Information of the National Steering Committee for Covid-19 Prevention and Control Bui The Duy said that as soon as the new epidemic appeared, Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam directed the research on technology solutions and assigned the Ministries of Information and Communications, Health, Science and Technology and experts to implement each solution persistently. The information team consists of members, volunteers, information technology experts, voluntarily participating from the early days of Covid-19 prevention and control, from tracing, building a Covid safety system (antoancovid.vn), to coordinate in making medical declarations in epidemic areas, assessing disease risk in localities. In particular, scientists from this Working Group have researched technological solutions and launched products that apply AI technology, which are considered to be effective support for the epidemic prevention and control team.

These can be mentioned, the application of big data processing technology and artificial intelligence, modeling the current state of the epidemic to assess risks, detect potential epidemic clusters and etc. detailed analysis of information disease cases,  disease clusters, providing analytical charts to support decision-making related to social distancing, zoning, and epidemic suppression; building a computational model to identify risks, supporting decision-making related to social distancing, zoning, and epidemic suppression. Build some models to estimate the number of infections from one or more outbreaks, estimate the time of occurrence of F0; calculating the risk of Covid-19 at different levels and scopes. System of data records for centralized storage of data from many sources, supporting epidemiological information tracing; modeling disease status to assess risks, detect potential epidemic clusters based on Artificial Intelligence.

AI also assists in contact tracing, which has been effective when there is an outbreak or new infection in the community, helping the medical team to investigate the schedule, get epidemiological information. Especially, when the number of infections in the community is large, inputting data from paper declarations takes a long time and is easy to confuse, set of declarations, epidemiological investigation sheets and upload to the system. When the epidemic became more complicated, AI was present in isolation areas and hospitals with automatic robots to help disinfect, deliver, and give medicine to patients and etc.

The most recent highlight of the presence of digital technology, AI technology in the prevention of Covid-19 is the announcement ceremony to connect the Telehealth consulting support platform to 100% of online district and the launch of the National Center for Technology for Covid-19 Prevention and Control took place in the afternoon of August 8, in Hanoi with the participation of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh.

Through the actual implementation results at the bridge points, doctors and nurses consider this as one of the effective solutions in supporting timely diagnosis and treatment, limiting overload in upper-level hospitals and reduce patient-to-doctor contact. Along with that, helping doctors and nurses in remote areas feel more secure and confident in treating serious patients.

Doctor of Mathematics Le Chi Ngoc - Institute of Applied Mathematics and Informatics, Hanoi Polytechnic University is one of the 7 typical members of the Rapid Response Information Team for epidemic prevention and control (National Steering Committee for Prevention and Control COVID-19 pandemic) was honored to receive the Certificate of Merit from the Prime Minister.
