NOIP attended Singapore Intellectual Property Week 2021
Receive an invitation from the Intellectual Property Office of Singapore (IPOS), Director Dinh Huu Phi attended the Global Intellectual Property Forum, the opening event for IP Week Singapore 2021.

Director Dinh Huu Phi attended the opening session of Singapore Intellectual Property Week 2021 by the Minister of Culture, Community and Youth and the second Minister of Justice of Singapore.

Singapore Intellectual Property Week is one of the world's leading IP events, bringing together thousands of attendees from dozens of countries and territories, including many leaders, planners and leaders, policy makers on IP, legal experts and innovative businesses meet, exchange and share experiences around the role and importance of IP as well as innovation activities for economic development.

The IP Week initiative was first launched by IPOS in 2012, and has now been held 9 times and has attracted more and more delegates from the business and intellectual property communities in the region and around the world. Although this year's IP week is held in combination in person and online (mostly online) due to the Covid-19 pandemic, it is still expected to attract the attendance of about 5,000 delegates from 45 countries. The Minister of Culture, Community and Youth and the Second Minister of the Ministry of Justice of Singapore attended, as the guest of honor, delivered a speech opening the event.

This year's IP Week topic chosen by IPOS is "Turn Ideas into Assets - Get stronger with Intellectual Property" (Ideas to Assets - Emerging Stronger with IP) with the implication that the Covid-19 epidemic not only not hinder the development of innovative businesses, but also help them turn challenges into opportunities to grow stronger thanks to intellectual property. Sharing experiences and discussing about this topic are speakers - important guests, such as World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) General Director Daren Tang, General Director of IP Office of Japan, China, Philippines, IPOS CEO, International Trademark Association CEO and many other guests.

The guests all shared the view that COVID-19 has caused disruption to the global economy over the past year. Even so, as the economy gradually transitions into the post-COVID phase, innovation and IP have emerged as key drivers of growth. According to estimates by the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), in 2020, investment in research and development (R&D) will still grow positively with more than 6% and international patent applications as well increased by about 4%. In that context, IP has proven to play an important role in driving national economic strategies and supporting businesses in their innovation journey to emerge stronger as the world recovers from the pandemic.

As an annual practice, NOIP leaders directly attend Singapore IP Week and have a side program with IPOS to implement bilateral cooperation activities between the two agencies. Through these activities, the cooperation relationship between the NOIP and the Singapore Intellectual Property Office is increasingly consolidated and developed.

Singapore Intellectual Property Week 2021 will continue until the end of August 29, 2021 with many other events hosted by IPOS and in collaboration with partner agencies and organizations.
