IoT and AI applications at Vietnamese medical examination and treatment facilities
The system of medical examination registration, remote queuing and automatic threading is the product of the project: "Research and application of internet of things (IoT) technology and artificial intelligence (AI) in registration and coordination and management of outpatients at medical examination and treatment facilities in Vietnam” coordinated by the Center for Microelectronics and Informatics Technology (Institute of Applied Technology, Ministry of Science and Technology - Science and Technology) with the Vietnam - Korea Institute of Science and Technology (VIKIST).

This system can help the hospital be proactive in streamlining, guiding people to register for medical examination and treatment, and at the same time helping to reduce people's waiting time.

Solve the problem of waiting in line for medical examination

In order to solve the situation of people queuing up at medical examination and treatment areas, contributing to reducing the load on hospitals, scientists from the Center for Microelectronics and Informatics Technology (Nacentech) and VKIST proposed by the Ministry of Science and Technology to carry out the project: "Research and application of IoT and AI technologies in registration, coordination and management of patients for outpatient examination and treatment at medical examination and treatment facilities in Vietnam."

After 2 years of implementation, the scientists of the 2 units have researched and successfully manufactured a system of medical examination registration, remote queuing and automatic threading, etc., helping to reduce waiting time and the risk of infection cross-contamination for patients and relatives; contribute to the improvement of hospital service quality.

Medical registration device

With this registration system, patients or their family members can choose one of two forms of registration for medical examination: remote registration on the website platform of a computer or mobile device and direct registration at kiosk of the hospital. With the form of remote registration, patients access the website ytecong.vn or congkhaibaoyte.org to choose where to register for the examination and declare clinical symptoms, personal information to get the order number for remote queuing.

This website also allows patients to track the queue order to choose the time to visit. Besides, the device is also designed to be placed at the hospital (self-service kiosk) for patients to self-register for medical examination. Patients can manipulate the touch screen to register for medical examination or press the button to get a number (for patients who do not know how to use the device). With these two forms of registration, patients will register personal information via QR code on their citizen identification card or health insurance card. The equipment system has been tested at Bach Mai Hospital, Lang Son General Hospital, Khoai Chau District Medical Center (Hung Yen) during the COVID-19 season with good results. Currently, the research team is using the system at a hospital under the Ministry of Industry and Trade to diversify the model of medical examination and treatment facilities, synchronizing many software into a product that fully meets the features of the management system of medical examination and treatment, in order to better serve the needs of people and medical facilities.
