Many activities celebrate World Innovation Day
On the occasion of World Innovation Day (April 21) and World Intellectual Property Day (April 26), the Ministry of Science and Technology has held a response ceremony to raise awareness about the role of innovation and rights of intellectual property in Vietnam.

Speaking at the response ceremony taking place in the afternoon of April 21, Minister of Science and Technology Huynh Thanh Dat said that, following the direction of the Government leaders, for the first time, Vietnam organized the National Innovation Day with the message is “Intellectual property, innovation and the young generation for a better future.”
Present at the event, Mr. Christian Manhart, UNESCO Representative in Vietnam, said that innovation is a very important factor for Vietnam to be able to master and exploit all the economic potentials of the country, creating new impetus for fields, such as education and training, creating jobs, thereby promoting economic growth.
In particular, innovation is more important than ever in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic and current challenges. Mr. Manhart emphasized that international organizations, such as UNESCO will continue to accompany Vietnam in transforming a more dynamic digital economy, further promoting innovation from private and local economic resources, especially in promoting fields like STEM and clean energy.
From local side, Mr. Nguyen Hong Son, Director of Hanoi City Department of Science and Technology said that the launch of the Ministry of Science and Technology to respond to and celebrate World Intellectual Property Day and combine it with the National Innovation Day is a "very meaningful event for the provinces and cities". According to him, this is an opportunity for the younger generation to learn how intellectual property rights can support goals, help turn ideas into reality, generate income, jobs and have a positive impact on the surrounding world.
It is known that as part of the series of activities to respond to Innovation Day and World Intellectual Property Day, there is the first national financial technology startup competition "Finnovation 2022" coordinated by the Youth Union of the Ministry of Science and Technology, organized by Youth Unions from many universities. Through the contest, the Ministry of Science and Technology aims to promote an innovative, multi-disciplinary startup ecosystem of international scale, taking technology and innovation as the means, taking the young and students as the core.
In addition, there was also a workshop "Respecting intellectual property rights and gender equality in reading culture of Vietnamese students" organized by the National Office of Intellectual Property in collaboration with the Vietnam Women's Academy to arouse, encourage Vietnamese students to actively do scientific research in the spirit of respecting intellectual property rights and gender equality.
In the coming time, the Ministry of Science and Technology will deploy a series of events, exhibitions, workshops... to recognize the achievements of science and technology's contributions to the development of the country, and at the same time contribute to innovation and make intellectual property available to everyone.
Vietnam is currently ranked 44th out of 132 countries in the global innovation ranking announced by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and is rated as one of four countries in the middle income group. It is catching up with the world's innovation momentum.
