Can Tho ranked 5th in the Top 10 localities with the highest PII scores
In the afternoon of March 12, 2024, the Ministry of Science and Technology announced the Local Innovation Index (PII).
The local level innovation index (abbreviated as PII - 'Provincial Innovation Index') is a composite index, including 52 component indices.
The Academy of Science, Technology and Innovation under the Ministry of Science and Technology built a nationwide index for the first time in 2023. The index is a tool with a scientific and practical basis for leader levels to make decisions, develop and implement policies, and provide useful reference information on the investment environment and resource conditions for local production and business activities.
The ranking shows the current status of socio-economic development models based on science and technology and innovation of 63 provinces and cities in 2023.
The 2022 index set was built on a trial basis with 20 localities. After that, the Government assigned the Ministry of Science and Technology to develop a set of local innovation indexes nationwide from 2023 (Resolution No. 10/NQ-CP dated February 3, 2023).
PII is built closely to the structure of the global innovation index GII (Global Innovation Index) published annually by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and used by the Government in management, operating since 2017.
In this ranking, Can Tho ranked 5th in the Top 10 localities with the highest scores in the country, including Hanoi (62.86); Ho Chi Minh City (55.85); Hai Phong (52.32); Da Nang (50.70); Can Tho (49.66); Bac Ninh (49.20); Ba Ria Vung Tau (49.18); Binh Duong (48.64); Quang Ninh (48.03); Thai Nguyen (47.75).
